This tab is completely wrong. It doesn't even resemble the actual chords, in either the pattern or the chord names.

STOCKTON GALA DAYS (10,000 Maniacs ? unplugged)

Intro:
C G |C G |C G |D D4 | (1 measure, 4 beats, between brackets)
C G |C G |C G |D D4*|

D D4* |
That summer...
C | G | C | G |
fields grew high with foxglove stalks and ivy.
C | G | D | D D4* |
Wild apple blossoms every-where. Emerald...

D D4*
Emerald...
C G C G
green like none I have seen a-part from dreams, that escape me.
C G D D D4*
There was no girl as warm as you.

D D4*
Oh-oh-oh,
C G C G
How I learned to please, to doubt myself and needs,
C G D D D4*
you'll never, never know.

D D4*
That summer...
C G C G
fields grew high. We made garland crowns in hiding,
C G D D4
pulled stems of flowers from my hair. Blue in the
C G C G
stream like none I have seen apart from dreams that escape me.
C G D D4*
There was no girl as bold as you.

D4* C G C G
How... I've learned to please, to doubt myself and needs,
C G D Em, D, C, D D4
you'll never, never know. You'll never knoo-oo-ow.

C, G, C, G
C, G, D, D D4*
D4* C G C G
Violet serene like none I have seen apart from dreams that escape me.
C G D D4*
There was no girl as warm as you.

D4* C G C G
How... I've learned to please, to doubt myself and needs,
C G D Em, D, C, D D4*
you'll never, never know. You'll never kno-oo-ow.

D4* C G C G
That summer... fields grew high. We had wildflower fever.
C G D
We had to lay down where they grow. (where they grow, ohh...)

Outro: (increased intensity)
D4* D D4
How I've learned to hide, (How) I?m...
C G C G
locked inside, you'd be surprised if shown. But, you?ll
C G D D4*
n-e-v-e-r! (you?ll) never know. (Oh...)
(repeat x4 ? various stresses and uses of ?you?ll never? and some non-vocal passes/pauses--but general idea for strumming as you loop through outro)

C = x32010 (however, cheat and play Cadd9, x32033, and this song couldn?t be easier)
G = 320033
D = x00232
D4 = Dsus4 = xx0233 (just add pinky on 3rd fret of D)

* = where connecting parts of measures

The intro doesn?t sound like rest of song and as far as I can here there is no real change from verses to chorus--just continuous C, G, C, G, C, G, D (Dsus4)

I?m trying to work with the base this guy started, the only reference I can find anywhere on the web, but it?s pretty rough. And it?s basically impossible to follow (if even correct). Sounds like there are 4 parts/section to this song:

A) Verses? ? Begin with ?That summer...? lead-in. In these sections I play each chord progression with a baseline (beat 1), a strum (2) and then 4 quick up downs (?3 & a 4?)
B) Chorus/Outro? ? ?How I learned to please..? parts. Try all strumming with down-up-down on 1 & 2 and a bunch of quick ones between 3 & 4 (4-8)
C) Intro ? No clue. This is violin and orchestra instruments that I can?t seem to get a handle on for translation to guitar (beyond my skill). So, I just suggesting to kick off with a couple shortened passes of the progression that follows. It sounds close to Am and E (or Em) but I got tired of worrying about it as the rest of the song is so simple that you can enjoy strumming, tapping, and singing along with the C, G, D parts. If you have a fix for the intro, please share it!
D) The extended ?knoo-oo-ow? at the end of chorus 2 and 3. Again, my tone deafness defeats me here. Definitely a drop down to a low key and build up back into the main progression (that?s all I?m showing here). Again, if you can take this and add in the missing details, I think we have a great start to this song (which for some reason has only 1 crappy version posted millions of times throughout the internet). Now there?s 2! :) But, at least mine is thorough!

Don?t hate, improve!

My chord positions didn't hold, so this probably doesn't help much at all. I gave the original guy 2 stars because the C,G part helped me get going enough to figure out my own tab. It's just a shame there aren't more quality 10,000 Maniacs tabs available. Great songs and pretty easy to play. My tab isn't good enough to post yet without comments so hopefully someone comes in here and helps out.
