Andrew Bird – Fiery Crash

Here is simple yet gorgeous tune from Andrew Bird. This tab is based heavily on his
2007 performance at the La Maroquinerie in Paris, France. This is only a guideline. He
it differently every time.

Useful Chords
    A Asus2 Asus4 Dm D Dsus2 Dsus4 E
e|--0---0----0-----1---2---0-----3-----0--|
B|--2---0----3-----3---3---3-----3-----0--|
G|--2---2----2-----2---2---2-----2-----1--|
D|--2---2----2-----0---0---0-----0-----2--|
A|--0---0----0-------------------------2--|
E|-------------------------------------0--|

Intro: He starts out looping a bunch of violin ascensions and descensions in A. Here is
first one he plays:
   A
e|----5--4------------|
B|----------7---------|
G|-------------5------|
D|--------------------|
A|--------------------|
E|--------------------|

Then he switches to guitar and plays this:

 |: A Dm A :| E
e|-------------1-------------0---|
B|------------3------2-------0---|
G|-----------2------2--------1---|
D|---------0-------2---------2---|
A|-0-0-0-0--------0----------2---|
E|---------------------------0---|

At this point Andrew strums an A before starting to sing. This riff is played over the
verse, to the same time of the lyrics.

Turnstiles on mezzanine
Jet ways and Dramamine fiends and x-ray machines
                         D
You were hurling through space
G-Forces twisting your face
              A
Breeding superstition
             E
A fatal premonition

                         D
You know you’ve got to envision
           A
The fiery crash

E D
Oh, close your eyes and you wake up
                A
Face stuck to a vinyl settee
E D
Oh, the line was starting to break up
                 A
Just as you were starting to say
    A
e|--------------------------|
B|--------------------------|
G|--------------------------|
D|--------------------------|
A|--4--2--4--2--0--4--2--0--|
E|--------------------------|
Something, apropos, I don’t know. (Riff played to same time as lyrics)

Then the musical break, the chords are: A D A E D A. Listen to the recording for time.

Play the first two lines using the same riff from the first verse.

Beige tiles and magazines
Lou Dobbs and the CNN team on every monitor screen
                       D
You were caught in the crossfire
Where every human face has you reaching for your mace
                       A
So it's kind of an imposition ... fatal premonition

E D
To save our lives you've got to envision
E D
To save all our lives you've got to envision
E D A
Well to save all our lives you've got to envision ... the fiery crash

The Dm > A parts are played with the same picking pattern as the intro.

Dm A
It's just a formality
    Dm A
Why must I explain?
       Dm A
Just a nod to mortality
           E A
Before you get on ... before you get on a plane

E D
Oh, close your eyes and you wake up
                A
Face stuck to a vinyl settee
E D
Oh, the line was starting to break up
                       A
What was that you were going to say?

At any time during the song, you can use the Dsus’s and Asus’s to supplement any normal
or A. I hope this is help and I’m very sure it’s accurate. Please email me at
or PM with any questions or problems, and please comment.
Peace
Zach
