This is a very strange song to say the least. Befroe I watched the movie, I knew that has lots of chord changes, but there was more. The beginning is straightforward enough, the end is really complicated that even I can't put the chords and lyrics in correctly. The chords and lyrics are based on the 2004 version of 'Phantom of the Oprah' by John Schumacher. Intro from drumroll: D A/C# Bm Bm/A G D/A A A7 FIRMIN Gm "Mys-tery after gala night," it says, "Mys-tery of soprano's flight!" Fm "Mys-tified all the papers say, we are mys-tified - we suspect foul play!" Em Am Bad news on so-prano scene - G C first Carlotta, now Chris-tine! Bm Em Still, at least the seats get sold Dm G7 gossip's worth its weight in gold . . . C G/B Am Am/G What a way to run a business! F Dm G Spare me these unending trials! C G/B Half your cast disap-pears, Am Fm7 but the crowd still cheers! C/G O-pera! G To hell with Gluck and Handel - G7 Gm Have a scandal and you'll sure to have a hit! ANDRE Gm Damnable! Will they all walk out? This is damnable! FIRMIN Andre, please don't shout . . . Fm It's pub-licity! And the take is vast! Free publicity! ANDRE But we have no cast . . . Andre what a charming gala! G Em A Chris-tine was in a word, 'sub-lime'! D D/C# Bm Gm7 We were hardly be-reft when Car-lotta left - D/A A On that note, the diva's a disaster A7 D must you cast her when you see she's past her prime?" FIRMIN D D/C# Bm Bm/A "Dear Firmin, just a brief re-minder: G Em A (Spoken)my salary has not been paid. D D/C# Bm Gm7 Send it care of the ghost, by re-turn of post. D/A (Spoken) P.T.O.: A No-one likes a debtor, A7 so it's better if my orders are obeyed!" Bb7 (with drumroll) FIRMIN/ANDRE Eb Bb/D Cm Cm/Bb Who would have the gall to send this? Ab Fm Bb Someone with a puerile brain! FIRMIN Eb Bb/D These are both signed "O.G." . . . ANDRE Cm Abm7 Who the hell is he? BOTH Eb/C Opera ghost! FIRMIN Bb It's nothing short of shocking! RAOUL I want an answer - Cm7 I take it that you sent me this note? FIRMIN What's all this nonsense? ANDRE Dm Of course not! FIRMIN Don't look at us! RAOUL She's not with you, then? FIRMIN Dm Of course not! ANDRE We're in the dark . . . RAOUL Monsieur, don't argue - Cm7 Isn't this the letter you wrote? FIRMIN NC And what is it, that we're meant to have wrote? I shall give you one last chance . . ." PHANTOM'S VOICE (taking over) . . . Christine Daae has returned to you, and I am anxious her career should progress. In the new production of "Il Muto", you will therefore cast Carlotta as the Pageboy, and put Miss Daae in the role of Countess. Ab The role which Miss Daae plays calls for charm and appeal. The role of the Pageboy is silent - which makes my casting, in a word . . . ideal. Spoken NC I shall watch the performance from my normal seat in Box Five, which will be kept empty for me.
