Playing the high "d" string is optional. I tabbed it without the "d" string because, in
the version from his album, Ben Harper doesn't play it at all. In the Ben Harper/Pearl
Jam version he does play the "d" string. Playing it makes the song easier. You choose

d = down stroke

u = up stroke

\ = first beat of measure

' = other beats in measure

*  means that most of the time Ben doesn't play that note, but you can throw it in for
flare or totally ignore it. Do
whatever you like.

"*" in Variation 1 of fourth measure only used with Variation 2 of third measure.


Here's the order:


Intro:

Intro/Verse riff once with first variation.


All Verses:

Intro/Verse riff repeats four times with variations 1, 1, 2, 3.


Chorus 1 + 2:

Chorus riff repeats four times with variations 1/1, 1/1, 2/1, 1/3.


Chorus 3:

Chorus riff repeats four times with variations 1/2, 1/2, 2/1, 1/2.

(Pearl Jam version has the same variations in the verses that I have, but all the
choruses go 1/2, 1/2, 1/2, 1/3 until the last chorus where it ends in 1/2. The outro
is the same in both versions.)


Outro:
