Heavy Soul - The Black Keys
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tuning: Drop D Standard
This song is definitely played in drop D, play along with it if you're not sure.
One other tab on here pretty much had the verse nailed, but here's my version, along
with the chorus. No solo yet!
Intro / Verse: [Riff 1] (throw in a bend around the 5th / 6th fret of the D string just
before the chorus)
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|---------77----------------77----------------------------------------------|
D|---------77----5b7b5p3-----77------------x6--------------------------------|
A|-------0-55-----------5p3--55----------------------------------------------|
D|-0-3h5---------------------------------------------------------------------|
Chorus: [Riff 2] (you don't have to play with the hammer-on, but I think it sounds better)
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|---0--3---0h5-5---3--------------------------------------------------------|
A|---0--3---0h5-5---3----------------------x5--------------------------------|
D|-0----3---0h5-5---3--------------------------------------------------------|
[Riff 1] x4
[Riff 2] x6
[Riff 1] x4
[Riff 2] x11
Solo begins with start of last chorus, tbh it would probably sound just as good if you
messed about and improvised!
b = bend
h = hammer-on
p = pull off
Any corrections feel free to comment
You should note that this is The Big Come Up version. It is the original but it was recorded in Pat's basement and the sound is distorted a lot. The Moan version is in a different key and can be played in standard. It would be
The chorus would be
Now the rhythm for that is very different than how I wrote it but those are the notes. With The Moan version being made a couple years after, it could be that The Big Come Up version was actually played in standard and was just distorted enough to be a key flat. Pat noted in an interview that he changed the tuning of Dan's guitar when he edited the tracks.
