All the other chords or tabs for this song are pretty much correct,
but this is the exact way Conor plays the chords in the song.
I figured it out from watching him play it at a show.

CHORDS: (all of them are played this way throughout the entire song)
C/G x G x F x G7 x Am9 x D7 x D x Em9 0
     x x x x 1 x x 0

    C/G G F
The rain, it started tapping on the window near my bed. There was a loophole
                   G7 Am9
in my dreaming, so I got out of it. And to my surprise my eyes were wide and
   F D7 D
already open. Just my nightstand and my dresser where those nightmares had

just been.

       C/G G F
So I dressed myself and left them, out into the gray streets. But everything
                         G7 Am9
seemed different and completely new to me. The sky, the trees,
                    F D7
houses, buildings, even my own body. And each person I encountered, I
   D
couldn't wait to meet.

       C/G G
And I came upon a doctor who appeared in quite poor health. I said "there is
   F G7
nothing that I can do for you that you can't do for yourself." He said "Oh
 Am9 F D7
yes you can. Just hold my hand. I think that would help." So I sat with him
                     D
a while and then I asked him how he felt.

             F Em9 Am9 F Em9 Am9 F Em9 Am9
He said, "I think I'm cured. No, in fact, I'm sure. Thank you stranger, for
          G
your therapeutic smile."

           C/G G F
So that is how I learned the lesson that everyone is alone. And your eyes
                             G7 Am9
must do some raining if you ever want to grow. But when crying don't help
                                         F D7
and you can't compose yourself, it's best to compose a poem, an honest verse
                  D
of longing or a simple song of hope.
                           C/G G
And that's why I'm singing, "Baby, don't worry, cause now I got your back.
           F
And every time you feel like crying,
           G7 Am9
I'm gonna try and make you laugh. But if I can't, if it just hurts too bad,
              F D7
then we will wait for it to pass, and I will keep you company through those
 D C/G G
days so long and black. And we'll just keep working on the problem we know
                               F G7
we'll never solve, of Love's uneven remainder, our lives are fractions of a
                          Am9 F
whole." But if the world could remain within a frame like a painting on a
               D7 D
wall. Then I think we would see the beauty then. We would stand staring in

awe
         F Em9 Am9 F Em9 Am9 F Em9 Am9
at our still lives posed like a bowl of oranges, like a story told by the
  G G7
fault lines and the soil.
