I play the begining of song with a guitar riff similar to the Waylon Jennings medly
version. You can hear Buddy slide the open D chord up to E but at the end of the verses
he plays open E almost skipping the A. Buddy had such a great sense of rhythm and timing.
I read that Buddy Holly's mother partially wrote this song but was not credited. It was
recorded at the Officers mess at Tinker AFB while Buddy was on a day off from touring.
All the background vocals were added later. The drummer JI Allison was trying to play a
beat similar to Little Richards Lucille and I think thats what makes the intro sound so
great.
