I figured out 99% of this song myself and confirmed my interpretation when I saw Chris Isaak on 'Saturday Night Live'. There are really two guitars in this tune. Isaak is strumming the rhythm on his acoustic while his lead guitarist does the melody work. Isaak plays the Bm A E progression through most of the song. In my notation, a row of tildes (~) means 'wiggle the tremelo bar'. '\' means slide down and '/' means slide up. The nice tremelo work along with a lot of reverb give this song most of its atmosphere. The intro riff is hard to notate. Basically, the sequence on the B string is: pick open string (B), bend tremelo down 1/2 step, hammer-on 7th fret (F#), release tremelo, pick 7th fret (F#), slide down to open string. intro (down 1/2) (back up) (slide) ~~~ (down 1/2) (back up) (slide) -----------------------------------|----------------------------------- -0----------7---------7\\-------0--|-0----------7---------7\\-------0-- -----------------------------------|----------------------------------- -----------------------------------|----------------------------------- -----------------------------------|----------------------------------- -----------------------------------|----------------------------------- A ~~~~~~ --------------------------| ---5----------------------| --6--7-6-4-----2---1------| -7-----------4---2--------| --------------------------| --------------------------| ~~~~ -2----0----------------------------- ---3----3--2----0------------------- -------------4----4-2--1-----1-2-4-- o ----------------------2----2-------- o ------------------------------------ ------------------------------------ verse Bm A E (fill) ------------ ------------ ----2---1--- --4---2----- ------------ ------------ Bm A E (another fill) ------------ ------------ ----1-2-4--- --2--------- ------------ ------------ lyrics: We were on fire No one could save me but you. Coming from a Slipknot fan, this is an AMAZING song. See, we do like other kindsa music aswell.
Has anybody out there got a Strat that doesn't go about half an octave out of tune when u use the tremelo bar? I just don't bother with that thing anymore. I've got a Squire Strat but it isn't that reliable. It goes out of tune all the time & like I said with the tremelo bar... But it plays pretty well. I suppose it really matters on who's actually playin it as to how good it can sound... That's what I think anyway.
