Hi there! I'm loving this song (big surprise!)
***THIS IS EASY TO PLAY!!! I had some questions
about some chords I was unsure of and UG user
P_Trik helped out with actual names (who knew the
Am/F chord does not exist??)

Here's a link to the song, play along-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsKE-wbmSwI

**The chords look scary but the shapes are easy:)

         EADGBe
D9/F# [200210]
Gsus [3x0010] or [xx0010]- which could be another chord all together :/
Fmaj7/A [x03210] - mistakenly known as an Am/F, which I've learned does not
exist. (Read comments below, Thanks P_Trik)

(I've got it tabbed too, check it out.)

STANDARD TUNING
NO CAPO

Intro-
Am Gsus D9/F# Fmaj7/A

Am
You're a pretty butterfly and
Gsus
You keep on passing by
   D9/F#
You never land inside my hands
     Fmaj7/A
Your home is in the sky
    Am
And there's a lesson waiting to be learned
    Gsus
The fire starters always get the best
        D9/F#
And the good guys never get the girl
    Fmaj7/A
And shooting stars cannot fix the world

    F
And I've made the same mistakes
      C G Fmaj7/A
But I won't this time
     C G Fmaj7/A
No I won't this time

Am Gsus D9/F# Fmaj7/A

Am
And you're a pretty butterfly
Gsus
And I believed all your lies
                D9/F#
Blinded by your sideways smile
   Fmaj7/A
And kindness in your eyes
    Am
But there's a limit to your flight
Gsus
I can offer you a better life
    D9/F#
But you keep on flying from the light
    Fmaj7/A
And I've lost my faith in wrong and right

    F
And I've made the same mistakes
      C G Fmaj7/A
But I won't this time
     C G Fmaj7/A Gsus Fmaj7/A Gsus
No I won't this time

  C
I know exactly what you'll do
  Am
I made damn sure I studied you
    Fmaj7/A
You won't pick me I am just a breeze
     G
Underneath your wings
     C
So I pray each night you'll change your mind
    Am
And maybe I am worth the fight
    Fmaj7/A
But I am wrong every time
    G C Am Fmaj7/A G
You only know how to fly

                 C Am
You only know how to fly, whoa oh
Fmaj7/A -once (G* C* -you can play these chords if you want but
You only, know how to, fly really there are no chords here.)

Hi Christy. The chord progression you are hearing is more: Am Gsus D7/F# Fmaj7. (Your definition for Am/F is Fmaj7 in first inversion, Fmaj7/A; please note that "slash" chords indicate: the chord/lowest sounding note)

Because of the piano melody emphasizing the notes E and C (1st string open, 2nd string 1st fret) there is an argument to define these chords with more complexity including those notes as: Am = x02210 G6sus = 3x0010 D9/F# = 200210 and Fmaj7/A = x03210

Hi :) Most of what you wrote just went right over my head. I taught myself and have no knowledge of any theory :( I just have an ear for it I guess. Check out my tab below because I'm (pretty) sure it's right. I figured out the picking pattern and then had to figure out what some of the shapes were called.

The Am- straight up, easy.
The Gsus4- because when strumming a G can go there but it's definitely that 1st fret B string (rather than 3rd fret B and e) so that's why I called it a Gsus4- which I thought was what this was- [320010].
The C5 was the tough one! I have no clue if it's named right but those are the strings picked. So I tried to find those strings in that pattern and came up with the name C5 after searching. When strumming this song, [x04553] sounds good and correct.
The Am/F- [xx3210] is on chord charts as an Am/F and on lots of tabs/chords throughout UG so I've always thought that's what it was (I did notice I had the A string open on the chart above and need to fix that.)

Thank you so much for your comment and trying to teach me something;) I try to make all my tabs/chords as simple as possible (still being correct of course) so beginners can play them and not be scared away. (I rally should take lessons!) Try the tab and let me know what you think :)

Am Gsus4 C5? Am/F
e|-------0---------0---------0--------0---------0-------0------------0--------|
B|-----1---1-----1---1-----1---1----1---1------------------------1-3---3-1-0--|
G|---2--------2----------0--------0-----------5--5----5--5-----2--------------|
D|------------------------------------------4-------4--------3----------------|
A|----------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|----------------------------------------------------------------------------|

I have no idea if this tab will be messed up when I press 'enter' so if it is here's the link to the tab itself-
