Ok, Firstly props to killertwist for the original tab, I have revised to include
chords over the whole song, some corrections and to make it app play along
friendly. Anyone that has any comments or suggestions lemme know and I will
check and revise if needed ;). Cheers!
This is how we play it live, and it's as close as I can get to the original track:

** NOTE - With the verse and pre chorus I normally use a 3 string finger picking pattern.
I pick the bass or lowest note in the chord with my thumb then play the note fingered on the
B and G string. Listen to the song for the timing ;)
[Verse 1]
B F#
We will fly
G#/B
Way up high
E B
Where the cold wind blows
F#
Or in the sun
G#/B
Laughing having fun
E B
With the people that she knows
F#
And if the situation
G#/B
Should keep us separated
E B
You know the world won't fall apart
F# G#/B
And you will free the beautiful bird
E
That's caught inside your heart
[Pre-Chorus 1]
F#/E E
Can't you hear her?
F#/E E
Oh she cries so loud
F#/E E
Casts her wild note
F#/E B
Over water and cloud
[Chorus]
E B C#m A E
That's the way it's gonna be, little darlin'
B C#m A E
We'll go riding on the horses, yeah yeah
B C#m A E
Way up in the sky, little darlin'
B C#m A B
And if you fall I'll pick you up, pick you up
[Instrumental]
B F# G#/B E B
[Verse 2]
F#
You will grow
G#/B
And until you go
E B
I'll be right there by your side
F#
And even then
G#/B
Whisper the wind
E B
And she will carry up your ride
F# G#/B
I hear all the people of the world
E B
In one bird's lonely cry
F# G#/B
See them trying every way they know how
E
To make their spirit fly
[Pre-Chorus]
F#/E E
Can't you see him?
F#/E E
He's down on the ground
F#/E E
He has a broken wing
F#/E B
Looking all around
[Chorus]
E B C#m A E
That's the way it's gonna be, little darlin'
B C#m A E
We'll go riding on the horses, yeah yeah
B C#m A E
Way up in the sky, little darlin'
B C#m A E
And if you fall I'll pick you up, pick you up
B C#m A E
That's the way it's gonna be, little darlin'
B C#m A E
We'll go riding on the horses, yeah yeah
B C#m A E
Way up in the sky, little darlin'
B C#m A E
And if you fall I'll pick you up, pick you up
B C#m A E
That's the way it's gonna be, little darlin'
B C#m A E
We'll go riding on the horses, yeah yeah
B C#m A E
Way up in the sky, little darlin'
B C#m A E
And if you fall I'll pick you up, pick you up
B C#m A E
That's the way it's gonna be, little darlin'
B C#m A E
We'll go riding on the horses, yeah yeah
B C#m A E
Way up in the sky, little darlin'
B C#m A E
And if you fall I'll pick you up, pick you up
Repeat until fade.

And I believe the guitar on the Darryl Braithwaite version was played by Tommy Emmanuel.

Walter Becker co-wrote The Horses with Rickie Lee Jones. It must be so embarrassing to find out that what you are criticising others of doing you are also guilty of doing. are more guilty of yourself. It’s either total ignorance, stupidity or purposely done but either way you have not one ounce of credibility. I’m also guessing a large dose of penis envy is going on. So TRIGGERED
