The Decemberists - I Was Meant For The Stage Chords
Play it softly and mean it - Brian
C
I was meant for the stage,
F C
I was meant for the curtain.
C Cmaj9 Am Am7/G
I was meant to tread these boards,
F C
Of this much i am certain.
C
I was meant for the crowd,
F C
I was meant for the shouting.
C Cmaj9 Am Am7/G
I was meant to raise these hands
F C G
With quiet all about me. oh, oh.
C
Mother, please, be proud.
F C
Father, be forgiven.
C Cmaj9 Am Am7/G
Even though you told me 'Son,
F C G
you'll never make a living.' oh, oh.
G F
From the floorboards to the fly,
C
Here I was fated to reside.
G
And as I take my final bow,
C
Was there ever any doubt?
F
And as the spotlights fade away,
C
And you're escorted through the foyer,
G
You will resume your callow ways,
C
But I was meant for the stage.
Good tab, but they mess around with the chords alot, with Cadd2 and the like. Also, the G at the begining of the chorus shifts to a G7, I think, as well as the second C in the chorus.
Close. Shifts to a C7, which is the secondary dominant of the F. Colin sings a B natural while the guitar is playing a Bb and you can hear that dissonance if you listen for it.
i agree with the above comments about the g7 and c7- also i think cmaj9 can be replaced with a c/b type chord to sound better- like x20010
heres some of the other chords mentioned above too-
G7- 320001
c7- 032410
Cadd2- 030010
am7/g- 320010 or 302010
