Song: January Hymn
Band: The Decemberists
Album: The King is Dead
Tabbed by: Jon Ransom
I'm compiling this tab using jimts and Don Tago's versions, so thanks goes
to them for laying all of the ground work. The only major change to this
tab you'll see are the Csus2 and Csus4 chords that Colin uses to fill in
between the FM7 chords. I've seen him play this live and it isn't that
difficult to get the hang of the chord changes.

Sounds great man, 5/5!
It's sort of a combination of picking and strumming, but it's actually very easy to figure out from the chords what exactly is going on. I'm usually terrible at figuring that sort of stuff out, but here it's very intuitive.
thanks! I appreciate that. I am also quite terrible when it comes to figuring songs out and tabbing them. I usually look for tabs that someone else has done. for this one I only filled in the gaps. I am the kind of person who wants to play a song exactly how the band plays it.
Also after playing it several times and listening to it several hundred (you know how it goes) I noticed something. You know those light strums you can hear in the background? You have any idea what the pattern is for them? I've been messing around with it fair amount but can't get it to sound quite right. I got the melody just fine, but it'd be nice to get the background in as well.
