Yea flat tuning works better, although i cant say i've seen Elliott play this song

Ebm = E
F# = G
You can play it the way you have it, its just a bit easier to play it with open chords.
Elliott played most songs tuned down a whole step. This one is played with mostly open chords if it's tuned that way.
