Communion Cup and Someone's Coat
by
Iron & Wine

Tabs by Joe Mac

This is my favorite of Iron & Wine.
I created these tabs because these ones don't require alternate tuning. I hate retuning.
I don't see how else you could tune it to make it easier. These seem more accurate too.
The tabs may be a little harder than others versions, but you'll get the hang of it.

Here is a link to the song on youtube. Listen to it to figure out the details. Enjoy!

Standard Tuning. Capo on the 4th fret. Tabs are relative to the capo.

Perfect, it's quite a joy to find that less-lazy people than I listen to Sam. Thanks for tabbing this.

This would be so much easier and sound the same if not better.

hey krisg, I disagree. you're using the same notes, however they are being choked early and not allowed to breathe. Take the B string--you go from open to fretting the third. That first not is killed early and doesn't ring out--it sounds choppy.

Check out the first tab, but do Phomer's idea...he writes...
"I hold the 8th fret on the low E rather than try to stretch from 3 to 7... then you can slide nicely up and down between the 8x7000 and the G chord there."

Also, I partially capo the top five strings on the fourth fret and fully capo (you'll need 2 capos) the second fret. This way, no annoying retuning that you hate (me too). and just change the (5) and (7) frets to (3) and (5) for the version 1 tab!

Try it out, dude. I think you'll like it.
Steven
