He plays the D7 and G through out most of the song the D9 is only in the intro and thats it

correction: I think the first two chords in the "we used to laugh..." bit are Em (played bar 7th) followed by Am (bar 5th).

I'm not sure if the previous comment about d7 through most of song is correct - D9 sounds closer to me.
