just listen to the song and he's clearly not using those chords
bottom sounds more correct for a quick strummed version
Those chords in the last line over the word "again" are not 9th chords. They are either 2 chords - C2 and A2, or add9 - Cadd9, and Aadd9. A ninth chord has to have the dominant seventh - Bb note in the case of C9 and G note in the case of A9.
