"If the Phone Doesn't Ring, It's Me" by Jimmy Buffett
>From "The Last Mango in Paris" album
Submitted by Richard Burchett
======================================
I wrote the intro-melody part out in tab format. This part needs to be
played by finger-picking. The chords above the tab usually give an easy
reference to the proper positioning of the left hand while the individual
notes are played.
Intro-melody:
(C) (Em) (F) (repeat
2x)
E:----------0------------0----------------0---------1-------------------------

B:----------------------------3----------------3-----1---------------0--1--3--

Verse 1:
C Em F C
There are oceans of feelings be-tween us,
Am C
currents that take us and sweep us away.
C Em F C
That's why we seldom have seen us,
Am G C
in the light of a cold hard day.
Am C
Lot's of new friends, with the same old answers,
Am G G7
open your eyes you might see,
C Em F C
if our lives were that simple we'd live in the past,
Am G C
if the phone doesn't ring, its me.
Chorus:
G C
If the phone doesn't ring, you know that it's me,
G C
I'll be out in the eye of the storm,
G C
if the phone doesn't ring, you know that I'll be,
G C
where someone can make me feel warm.
C Em F C
It's too bad we can't turn and live in the past,
Am G C-(first chord of intro)
if the phone doesn't ring, it's me.
Intro-melody: No repeats this time.
Verse 2:
C Em F
C
I've had good days and bad days and going - half - mad days,
Am C
I try to let go, but your still on my mind.
C Em F C
I've lost all the old ways, I'm searching for new ways,
Am G C
Putting it all on the line.
Am C
Lots of new friends, with the same old problems,
Am G G7
open your eyes you might see,
C Em F C
if our lives were that simple we'd live in the past,
Am G C
if the phone doesn't ring, it's me.
Repeat chorus.
Intro-melody: Play the tab part, singing these words over it. All repeats
this time.
C Em F
It's me, it's me,
C Em F
it's me, it's me,
C Em F
it's me, it's me,
C Em F
it's me, it's me.
Coda: (Slowly)
C Em F C
If it takes all our future we'll live through the past,
Am G C C/F C
if the phone doesn't ring, it's me.
That's All. Once again, this song sounds much better if you finger-pick it.
Also, it's a nice touch to add a high "g" note to the Em chords.
