Music & Lyrics by John Butler
From the album "Living (Live Album)" By The John Butler Trio

Tabbed by - Michael Palethorpe, mike___p@hotmail.com

Alright, here is my little tab of one of the best songs off 'Living". Its a
very emotional song, played with feeling. I tabbed it according to the live
album version, so the best way to play it is to listen to the song in order
to
get the feel and the timing. I've included some time markers, so it will
help
to play along with a CD player that displays the seconds.

Play it in open C (Low-High CGCGCE) with a Capo on the 4th Fret.

I'll tab out the nice intro, and include some basic pick patterns, but if
your
an experienced player, just use a nice picking pattern to hit those open
notes
every now and then. As players will see, there is a lot of classic John
Butler
hammerons (h) and pulloffs (p). These are done very fast. Just Listen.
I hope you're a good fingerpicker.

Now comes the riff which is used in the verse, timing and feel could be
tricky.
(1:04) (1:09)
e|----------------------|--------------------|
C|-2h4-4------4---0--0--|----2----4----------|
G|-0----0----0-----0--0-|------0-------------|
C|----------------------|--------00----------|
G|--------0h2-2---------|----0---------------|
C|--------------4~--4---|--4-----------------|
Keep playing this for the verse but alternate the last part as follows:
(1:13) (1:19)
e|----------------------|--------------------|
C|----------------------|----0--2---0--------|
G|----------------------|-----0--0-----------|
C|--"--------"----------|---------0-0--------|
G|----------------------|-------0------------|
C|----------------------|--4-----------------|

Okay, those were the verse riffs. Now the Chorus:
                                     (2:57)
e|----------------------------------------------------------------------------|
C|-4------------------------------------0-0---------4-44\-2----0--------------|
G|-0-------------------------------------00----------000--0-0---0-open pick---|
C|-0-finger pick this-into the lyrics-------------2/4-44\-2--2---0------------|
G|-0--------------------------------------------0-----------------------------|
C|-------------------------------------4----4-4-------------------------------|
                                     "Don't go away..."

Repeat that riff for the Chorus, then go back to the verses again.
For the next Chorus, the more emotional one, just play the same chorus riff,
But strum it keeping the same fingerings but hitting the open notes aswell.
Just feel it. That's it.

Okay, done. Hopefully if this tab is too hard to follow it will let you
know
here the notes are played. Add your variations.

This was a pain to type up, let me know what you think, if you like it, I'll
type up some others.
Have fun,

-MIKE-
