Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town
by Mel Tillis
V1.
       D A7 Em
You've painted up your lips an rolled and curled your tinted hair.
D D A7
Ruby are you contemplating going out somewhere?
    Em A7 Em
The Shadow on the wall tells me the sun is going down -
    D G G/F# Em (Stop)
Oh Ruby-----
                        D
Don't Take your love to town

V2 (same as V1)
Its hard to love a man whose legs are bent and paralysed
And the wants and the needs of a woman your age, Ruby I realize,
But it won't be long i've heard them say until I not around
Oh Ruby-----
Don't Take your love to town

V3.
   Em D
It wasn't me that started that old crazy asian war
   Em G A7
But I was proud to go and do my patriotic chore
   Em A7 Em
And yes, it's true that I'm not the man I used to be...
    D G G/F# Em (Stop)
Oh Ruby-----
                        D
I still need some company.

V4 (Same as V1)

She's leavin' now 'cause I heard the slammin' iof the door
The way I know I've heard it slam one hundred times before
And if I could move I'd get my gun and put her in the ground
Oh Ruby-----
For god's sake turn around!

enjoy.....

That's weird. The version with 2 stars sounds the most like the song on my old vinyl The Gambler LP. The one where Kenny's wearing a vest and a puffy sleeved shirt and theatrical women and men surround him at the card table. Like the way the Ru-u-by drops down by half steps. I still have to tweak it a little, like playing a G instead of that 2nd D on "going out somewhere" in the 2nd line, but this is closest. Kind of a bare bones rightness to it.
