Actually, the bass DOES play during the verse. Listen carefully to the song once again, and you can hear the bass playing a slap/pop riff with a bass wah. I don't expect you to figure it out, but i thought you should know.

Ps, I think the bass in the Verse just follows the guitar, so shouldn't be too hard to figure out?

Just use the bass/root notes, whatever you wanna call them.
