Don't be fooled, what's played under this is really the keyboard and bass.  This is the 
guitar part for this section.

Then, the guitar is silent for the verse, pre-chorus, etc.

But it comes back for this, the chorus.

Mute it just so that it makes a sound.  For results closets to the actual song, have 
fingers touching somewhere around the 9th fret, and press lightly.  Then pick the strings 
your fingers are in this position.
