The Walk by Mayer Hawthorne
How Do You Do (2011)
Since this song has many instruments,
I transcribed the chords so you guys can play the comp.
If you are a solo acoustic guitarist,
then you can improvise using the given chords like I did.
I'm 99.99% sure these are the correct chords.
I chose to leave out the rhythm so you can learn the rhythm by ear.
After all that's what being a musician is about- the ears.
This is my first post ever by the way,
so let me know if I'm off somewhere.
Enjoy!
Verse:
A D
So long you did me wrong
A D
So long you did me wrong
A D A
Baby, what you’re doing now you’re pissin' me off, uuh
A D A
But your hair is so luxurious and your lips are so soft uuh
A D A
Anyway you slice it uh, you’re doing me wrong
A D
But I love the way you walk now and your legs are so long.
Pre-chorus:
Bm F#m
Well your looks had me putty in your hand now
Bm F#m
But I took just as much as I can stand now
Chorus: (Same progression as the verses)
A D A
And you can walk your long legs baby right out of my life
So long you did me wrong
Yeah you can walk your long legs baby right out of my life
So long you did me wrong
From the moment that I met you I thought you were fine, so fine
But your shitty fuckin' attitude has got me changing my mind. Yeah
Everybody tells me uuh, I need to let go, I know
But your cocoa butter skin now has got me beggin' for more
Pre-chorus:
Well your heels keep on runnin' through my head now
Tryin' to deal but I’m coming to the end now
And you can walk those high heels baby right out of my life
So long you did me wrong
Yeah you can walk those high heels baby right out of my life
So long you did me wrong
Bridge:
C#m C#m Cm Bm
Tell me why, why do you turn the blues skies cloudy grey
C#m C#m Cm Bm C#m / / /
You know why I can’t let you keep treatin' me this way
A
You've been jerkin' me around but uhh, I kept my eyes shut yeah
‘cause your shape is like an hourglass but I think the time’s up
Pre-chorus:(Bm, F#m...)
Well your heart is like a black piece of coal now
and I doubt that you ever had a soul now
Chorus: (A, D, A...)
And you can walk your cold heart baby out of my life
So long you did me wrong
Yeah you can walk your cold heart baby right out of my life
So long you did me wrong
So long you did me wrong
Leave me alone
Quite good. But I think the prr-chorus goes C#m-D (or Dmaj7?).
@Locolenteja, Now that I've listened to the harmonies more, it does sound like a iii-IV progression. Thank you for the comment!
I agree with the first comment here that the pre-chorus goes C#m - D. But I also seems to me after playing along with the recording that the verse should go back and forth between A and Bm(barred on the second fret, rather then A and D. I think the bridge is correct: C#m - CM - Bm. Thanks for getting me started on this fun song.
