Congratulations - MGMT
First tab ever, so don't be hatin' unless you want to. This is how I've been
playing it for a while, so it's pretty close.
Verse 1:
G G/F# Em Em7 C C/B Am Am4 Am
Dead in the water, it's not a paid vacation
G G/F# Em Em7 C C/B Am Am4 Am
The sons and daughters of city officials attend demonstrations
G G/F# Em Em7 C C/B Am Am4 Am
It's hardly a sink or swim when all is well if the ticket sells
Break:
G G/F# Em Em7 C C/B Am
Verse 2:
G G/F# Em Em7 C C/B Am Am4 Am
Out with a whimper, it's not a blaze of glory
G G/F# Em Em7 C C/B Am Am4 Am
You look down from your temple as people endeavor to make it a story
G G/F# Em Em7 C C/B Am Am4 Am
And chisel the marble words that all is lost if it's never heard
Pre-Chorus:
G C G G7
Chorus:
C
But I've got someone to make reports
D
That tell me how my money's spent
C
To book my stays and draw my blinds
D
So I can't tell what's really there
D
And all I need's a great big congratulations
Break x2: G G/F# Em Em7 C C/B Am
Continue playing the verse chords throughout verse three and four.
Verse 3:
I'll keep your dreams, you pay attention for me
As strange as it seems, I'd rather dissolve than have you ignore me
The ground may be moving fast but I tied my boots to a broken mast
This break is slightly different: G G/F# Em Em/7 C C/B D C G
Verse 4:
The difference is clear, you throw it in your cauldron
Rust and veneer, dusk and dawn, Steinways and Baldwins
You start with a simple stock of all the waste and salt to taste
Pre-Chorus: G C G G7
Chorus:
C
But damn my luck and damn these friends
D
That keep on combing back their smiles
C
I save my grace with half-assed guilt
D
And lay down the quilt upon the lawn
D
Spread my arms and soak up congratulations
Break until finish: G G/F# Em Em7 C C/B Am Am4 Am
I hope you have more fun playing it than I did typing it up,
play on mental mystics
I don't know but maybe it would sound better if a D chord was played instead of the Am at the end of each verse?
^ listen to the song and the chord progression is cleverly cut off from the D by MGMT, genius', making you want more!
Jealous guy got it spot on! :) 5*
Great job! Sounds bang on to me.
