Dueling Banjos
--------------
from the movie _Deliverance_, by Eric Weissberg
Greg Vaughn gvaughn@olga.net

I haven't actually heard the song in a while, I basically just grew up hearing
my dad pick out pieces of it. Here's what I know. The song is actually played
with a guitar and banjo with a question and answer sort of feel. I use a hard
pick near the bridge of the guitar to simulate the banjo sound.

Guitar 1 Banjo 1
e+--------------------------------------------------------------------------
B+-----------------------------------0-1-3-0-1---0--------------------------
G+---------------------------------------------2---0-2----------------------
D+-----0--------------------------------------------------------------------
A+-2-3---2-3-0-2---0--------------------------------------------------------
E+---------------3----------------------------------------------------------

Start this (lick 1) slow, then repeat a few times with increasing tempo
before moving on to the second lick.

Guitar 2 Banjo 2
e+--------------------------------------------------------------------------
B+-------------------------------------------0---0--------------------------
G+-------------------------------------0-0-2---0---2------------------------
D+-----------------------------------0--------------------------------------
A+---0-0-2-3---2-0----------------------------------------------------------
E+-3---------3--------------------------------------------------------------

From what I remember this (lick 2) is played once then it breaks into the
following chord question and answer.

Guitar 3 Banjo 3
    G G G C G G G G C G
e+--3-3-3---0---3---------------------3-3-3---3---3-----------------------------------
B+--0-0-0---1---0---------------------3-3-3---5---3-----------------------------------
G+--0-0-0---0---0---------------------4-4-4---5---4-----------------------------------
D+--0-0-0---2---0---------------------5-5-5---5---5----------------------------------
A+--2-2-2---3---2---------------------5-5-5---3---5----------------------------------
E+--3-3-3-------3---------------------3-3-3-------3---------------------------------
    8 8 4 4 4 8 8 4 4 4

The 8's and 4's correspond to eight and quarter notes respectively.

Again from what I remember you go back through licks 1,2,3 at a much quicker
tempo then then song goes into picking similar melodies over the strumming on
the other instrument. I've never played this with anyone else, so I've never
learned the duet parts (I've always faked both parts by myself).

Hope this helps
