Miyavi is a japanese artist who used to be in a band, the name of which I forget. While he was in the band, he was a drag queen called Miyabi (Which means elegant) and when he left he changed it to Miyavi (Which the japanese pronounce the same anyway). He's now taken to generally wearing goofy outfits and giving really wierd interviews. This might not be very accurate, but when I'm playing it sounds pretty cool anyway. When parts are repeated they're often slightly different. Listen out. This is seriously complicated guitar noise. HOWEVER. your description of Miyavi makes me sad. D: Very.
His previous band was called Due Le Quartz, a very popular visual kei band that is now disbanded. During his DLQ era, Miyavi was known as Miyabi, which means Elegant.
He was NOT a drag queen. The band's genre was 'visual kei', which literally means visual rock. Therefore, they put a lot of efforts into their clothing. Almost all, if not all, visual kei artists wear skirts and dresses - and every single one is a guy. With only about one exception, Kana, who doesn't really count anyways.
Miyavi has changed his name to MYV now, which is apparently just a shortened version of Miyavi. On his website he uses both names.
As far as the Japanese pronouncing Miyavi and Miyabi the same - I'm not sure about that, but I know MYV himself pronounces it differently.
