There is no guitar II on the beginning. After playing it the correct way and asking the band members I'm pretty sure it's:

yes you can play it that way, but on the recording they definitely have one guitar playing power chords and another playing octaves, the sound is too full for that guitar part. If you only have one guitar that would be the ideal way to play it.
