"Solo":
For the solo, Tom uses his strumming hand to change the pickups on his special Morello Guitar and uses his fret hand to rub on the strings giving it a scratching sound. He plays this in rythm and brings you the solo.
PS: He also puts his second tone dial on 0 and keeps his first on 10.
