Artist: Smog ( A.K.A. Bill Callahan)
Song: Bathysphere
Album: Wild Love (1995 Drag City)
Tabbed By: Matt Skeefe
-I'm going to need to make a lot of notes for this one since it's so hard to tab it out
by note with its numerous semitones and random patterns. First of all, in the studio
Bill's guitar was obviously off tune. To get on the exact pitch, Tune your D, G, and
E strings up one semitone and tune your A string down one semitone. Then, you should be
to play everything on this tab...
Guitar 1 plays alternating leads using two alternating power chords, but it's usually
like this. Feel free to change the pattern:
C#5....
E---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G-----6-------6-------6-------6---------6-------6----6----------------------|
D---4----------------------------4-------------------4----------------------|
A---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
...and Em5.
E---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G---9-7-------7--------7-9-7-9-------7-------7-------7-------7-7-----7-7-7--|
D---0----------------------------------------------------0------------------|
A---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
-Note that the Em5 notes have a bit of a staccato effect most of the time. To get this,
place your fingers on the right edge of the frets instead of palm muting.
-During the verses, a second guitar plays a staccato at the 2nd fret on the E string
you tuned it up) during the C#5 and during the Em5, the 3rd fret on the B string (which is
normally)
The solos after the choruses are almost the same, but this will do:
E---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G-----9---11--------11-----------11-----------11---------11--------11---13--|
D---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G-14---16--------14---------------------------------------------------------|
D---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
(I think) One of the solos near the end continues to the 18th fret after the 16th
and that the one after the first chorus only goes to the 14th.
...Outro (Just 1 chord is used):
E------------------------------------------------|
B------------------------------------------------|
G-----------------6------------------------------|
D-----------------7------------------------------|
A-----------------5------------------------------|
E------------------------------------------------|
