Drink Down The Moon
Steeleye Span

I have tabbed this in the key of A minor but I think the original is in F minor.
I normally play it with capo at fret 2.

      Am G Am
Three maidens a milking did go
      C Am7 G
Three maidens a milking did go
        Am G Am G
And the wind it did blow high, and the wind it did blow low
   Am G Am
It tossed their petticoats to and fro

     Am G Am
They met with some young man they know
     C Am7 G
They met with some young man they know
         Am G Am G
And they boldly ask-ed him, if he had any skill
   Am G Am
To catch them a small bird or two

   Am G Am
Oh yes I've a very good skill
   C Am7 G
Oh yes I've a very good skill
         Am G Am G
And it's come along with me, to yonder flowering tree
    Am G Am
And I'll catch a small bird or two

        Am G Am
So it’s off to the green woods went they
         C Am7 G
And it's off to the green woods went they
        Am G Am G
And he tapped at the bush, and the bird it did fly in
  Am G Am
A little above her lily white knee

    Am G Am
Her sparkling eyes they did turn around
        C Am7 G
Just as if she had been all in a swoon
        Am G Am G
And she cried "I've a bird, and a very pretty bird
         Am G Am
And he's pecking away at his own ground"

Instrumental

         Am G Am
Here's a health to the bird in the bush
        C Am7 G
Here's a health to the bird in the bush
          Am G Am G
And we'll drink up the sun, we'll drink down the moon
        Am G Am
Let the people say little or much

      Am Em
There is a thorn bush in our cale yard
      G
There is a thorn bush in our cale yard
       Am G Am Am7
At the back o'thorn bush there lays a lad and lass
            G Am
And they're busy busy fairing at the cuckoo's nest

Am Em
Hi the cuckoo, ho the cuckoo, hi the cuckoo's nest
G
Hi the cuckoo, ho the cuckoo, hi the cuckoo's nest
         Am G Am Am7
I'd give anybody a shilling and a bottle of the best
        G Am
That'll rumple up the feathers in the cuckoo's nest

      Am Em
It is thorn and it is prickle, it is compassed all around
      G
It is thorn and it is prickle, and it isn't easy found
    Am G Am Am7
She said “young man you blunder” and I said it isn't true
      G Am
And I left her with the makings of a young cuckoo

Am Em
Hi the cuckoo, ho the cuckoo, hi the cuckoo's nest
G
Hi the cuckoo, ho the cuckoo, hi the cuckoo's nest
         Am G Am Am7
I'd give anybody a shilling and a bottle of the best
        G ----- Am
That'll rumple up the feathers ^in the cuckoo's nest.
