Only A Fool Would Say That
By Steely Dan (Becker/Fagen)
Off the album "Can't Buy a Thrill"
Transcribed by Joe Hankin (wetzil@hotmail.com)

Intro: Dm7 C/C6 2x

N.C. Dm7
A world become one of salads and sun
Only a fool would say that
A boy with a plan; a natural man
Wearin' a white Stetson hat
Am F
Unhand that gun begone
Em7 Dm7
There's no one to fire upon
        Dm7 Am
If he's holding it high, he's telling a lie

I heard it was you
                 Am Am/G D/F#
Talkin' 'bout a world where all is free
It just couldn't be
             C C6
And only a fool would say that

The man in the street, draggin' his feet
Don't wanna hear the bad news
Imagine your face there in his place
Standin' inside his brown shoes
Am F
You do his nine to five,
Em7 Dm7
Drag yourself home half-alive
    Dm7 Am
And there on the screen, a man with a dream

E7sus4 E7 Am Am/G Am/F Am/E
Anybody on the street has murder in his eyes
       Dm E Am D F C/C6
You'll feel no pain, and you're younger than you realize
Only a fool would say that
       Am Am/G Am/F Am/E Dm7
Only a foooooooooooooooooool

(Guitar Solo: Dm7 Am7 Em7 Dm7 C6)

I heard it was you
                Am Am/G D/F#
Talkin' 'bout a world where all is free
It just couldn't be
            C C6
And only a fool would say that
Only a fool would say that
        F C6
Only a fool would say that

changes. And questions, comments or corrections, e-mail me at
wetzil@hotmail.com. I don't think I left out any chord shapes (they're
pretty simple anyway), but email me with questions.

sounds spot on, except the chord after Dm7 is called CM7 (major seventh) not C/C6 (the notes in the chord are right just not the name).
