Riding on the City of New Orleans,
Am F C G7
Illinois Central Monday morning rail
C G C
Fifteen cars and fifteen restless riders,
F G C
Three conductors and twenty-five sacks of mail.
Am
All along the southbound odyssey
Em
The train pulls out at Kankakee
C D
Rolls along past houses, farms and fields.
Am
Passin' trains that have no names,
Em
Freight yards full of old black men
F G7 C
And the graveyards of the rusted automobiles.
CHORUS:
F G C
Singing: Good morning America how are you?
Am F C
Don't you know me I'm your native son,
G7 C G C
I'm the train they call The City of New Orleans,
F G7 C
I'll be gone five hundred miles when the day is done.
It was very good, although I think the other version was slightly more acurate (plus it was the same key as Arlo Guthrie)
Other than that it was fine except for the C chord for "New Orleans" which I think should be an Am.
This is def the original goodman version, and agree with the above Am on New Orleans - but also "Rolls along" should be G not C.
agree with 06902. also, after the suggested Am on "New Orleans", change it to a D7. Then, Bb on "gone", move the F to "hundred"
