This is the 1st part of the 3rd movement of Steve Reich's Award Winning Different Trains. It was written for string quartet, so there should be 4 parts but I've added 2 extra parts so it sounds like an orchestra in you bedroom. In the song each part is added gradually and repeated until all parts are introduced. But I assume anyone reading this tab didn't find it by accident. See my YouTube video if you need help. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wn_16JFPxfI Drop D tuning: eBGDAD Time Signature: 5/4 | | | | | |-----------------------------------------| (the music starts on the |-----------------------------------------| 5th beat, its also much |-7---------------------------------------| easier to make a more |---0-----------------------------8-8-7-8-| accurate loop this way) |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| | | | | | |-----------------------------------------| |---------10----10------------10----------| |-7-7-9-7---9-----9---7-7-9-7---9---------| |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| | | | | | |-----------------------------------------| (this loop is the same as |-10----10------------10------------------| the above one, but it starts |---9-----9---7-7-9-7---9---------7-7-9-7-| on the 5th beat, in true |-----------------------------------------| Reich Phasing style) |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| | | | | | |-----------------------------------------| (this loop also starts on |-5-----6-5---6-6-8-6-5-----------6-6-8-6-| the 5th beat) |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| | | | | | |-----------------------------------------| (this loop is identical to the |-5---6-6-8-6-5-----------6-6-8-6-5-----6-| one above, but it starts on |-----------------------------------------| the 4th beat) |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| | | | | | |-----------------------------------------| (this is the cello part and the |-----------------------------------------| reason that this song is best |-----------------------------------------| played in Drop D tuning, play |-----------------------------------------| these last four sections one |---------5-------------------------------| by one over the loop for best |-----------5-----------------------------| effect) | | | | | |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |---8-------------------------------------| |-8---------------------------------------| | | | | | |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |---------0-------------------------------| |-----------0-----------------------------| | | | | | |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |---14------------------------------------| |-12--------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| |-----------------------------------------| If you know this song you should be fine, otherwise see my video for help.
