Mind Mischief - Tame Impala
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tabbed by: Tim van Kester
Tuning: D (whole step down)
This is a tab for the song Mind Mischief by Tame Impala. Fun song to play.
I'm not really sure about the chords, since I kinda suck in figuring out the
chords for every song I tabbed out so far.
By the way, I forgot to edit the tuning in the tab. I'm sorry for that.
Please post a comment when you have suggestions!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Intro/ Main riff
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|---------8h9----8--6--8---4------------------------------------------------|
G|-5--6----8h10---8--6--8---5h6p5--5-----------------------------------------|
D|-6--8~---------------------------6~----------------------------------------|
A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Around 1:35, he still plays the main riff, but also this is played:
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|-8h9--9--9--9---8---6--6--6--6\4-----8h9--9--9--9---8---6--6--6--6\4-------|
G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|-8h9--9--9--9---8---6--6--6--6\4-----8h9--9--9--9---8---6--6--6--6\3~------|
G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Directly after that, this riff is played, with some overdrive:
e|---------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------|
G|---------8/10---8----------------------------|
D|-6--8~-------------8----6-6-6-6-6------6-----|
A|-----------------------------------6h8---6h8-|
E|---------------------------------------------|
e|---------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------|
G|---------------------------------------------|
D|-6--8~--------------------------------6------|
A|---------6/8---6------------------6h8---6h8--|
E|------------------6----4-4-4-4-4-------------|
This is repeated two times, where the last time misses the 'hammer-on' part.
Return to the main riff for a while, then:
e|-13-----8-------13-----8-------13-----8-------13-----8---------------------|
B|-13-----8-------13-----8-------13-----8-------13-----8---------------------|
G|-13-----8-------13-----8-------13-----8-------13-----8---------------------|
D|-10-----10------11-----10------11-----10------11-----10--------------------|
A|--------10-------------10-------------10-------------10--------------------|
E|--------8--------------8--------------8--------------8---------------------|
After that, this riff is played again:
e|---------------------------------------------|
B|---------------------------------------------|
G|---------8/10---8----------------------------|
D|-6--8~-------------8----6-6-6-6-6------6-----|
A|-----------------------------------6h8---6h8-|
E|---------------------------------------------|
Same number of repeats as before.
e|---------------9------8------13-----11-----13-----11-----9------8----------|
B|---------------9------8------13-----13-----13-----13-----9------8----------|
G|-7/9\7~--------10-----8------13-----12-----13-----12-----10-----8----------|
D|---------------11-----10-----11------------11------------11-----10---------|
A|---------------11-----10---------------------------------11-----10---------|
E|---------------9------8----------------------------------9------8----------|
These chords go on for a while. I'm sorry, but I'm too lazy to count them.
They are all 'sets' of B and A#m chords, but sometimes he plays them like
above.
When he plays the Fm for the third time, this riff comes in:
e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|-8h9-9-8h9p8\6----4h6-6-4h6p4--------8h9-9-8h9p8\6----4h6-6-4h6p4----------|
G|------------------------------5~----------------------------------5~-------|
D|----------------------------------------------------------------------8--6~|
A|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Somewhere around 4:03, this lick is also played twice...
e|------------------|
B|------------------|
G|-/10---8--6---5~--|
D|------------------|
A|------------------|
E|------------------|
And the song ends with...
e|----------------------------------|
B|----------------------------------|
G|----------------------------------|
D|-6--8~----------------------------|
A|---------/8---6-------------------|
E|-----------------6----4-4-4-4-4~--|
Under these chords:
e|-6--6-6--6-6--6-6-----4-4-4-4-4-|
B|-6--6-6--6-6--6-6-----4-4-4-4-4-|
G|-6--6-6--6-6--6-6-----5-5-5-5-5-|
D|-6--8-8--8-8--8-8-----6-6-6-6-6-|
A|-8--8-8--8-8--8-8-----6-6-6-6-6-|
E|-6--6-6--6-6--6-6-----4-4-4-4-4-|

Thanks dude! Friggin love this song and was trying to figure it out.
Way cool.
What is the point of the whole step down if you aren't even playing any open strings? I mean im sure the tone sounds a little better, but this tab does work with standard tuning if you just play two notes down for each note.
OTHER THAN THAT GREAT TAB
He does it to loosen the tension on his strings and give the guitar that sloppy liquid crunch. Sounds so good but yeah that is just extra work if you ask me.
