Not 100% sure about everything, but I think this is pretty close to how Ted plays it
 I'm sort of new to tabbing so you'll have to forgive any foolish mistakes.

-Intro:

Play that minus the first D chord four times (fast), then close like this:

In the studio version, it's played an octave higher as well. (On a twelve string?)  And
think there's another guitar playing straight D chords underneath everytime you hit that
D.  You can use drop D tuning to try and simulate it, but then it gets more tricky than 
already is...
