For all the pairs of open D and G notes,

hit the second pair of open string notes lightly on the upstroke.
I would play this shape by sliding an F powerchord up two frets from 
the F to the G, then back down once you've hit the aforementioned 2 note chords.

Listen to the record for the right chord rhythms/strumming.
