[So this is actually the first time I have ever posted a tab online, but that's only
because I never bother even using this site because it is always wrong. However
this song
is rather tricky to work out, so when I learnt it, I came here to see if I was
correct on a certain chord, and to my horror found someone had posted up this song
to completely
unaccurate chords. This offended me, so I decided to just do this and hopefully
save as many as I can from learning the other version. If your playing this on
piano you should be able to work out the melodic lines as Ollie plays them, and if
you play guitar, good luck.]

INTRO
(3/4 time)
| Dm | F+/C# | F/C | G/B | Bb |
Dm/A | A7 | Dm |

Dm F+/C# F/C G/B
Songs and melodies change and change
Bb
And sway
         Dm/A E7/G# A7
But they still stay the same
Dm F+/C# G/C G/B
The songs that we sung when the dark days come
        Bb Dm/A A7 Dm
Are the songs that we sung when we chased them away
Dm F+/C# F/C G/B
If I ever found a pot of gold
        Bb Dm/A E7/G# A7
I'd buy bottles untold of the nectar of the vines
Dm F+/C# F/C G/B
I'm going to die with a twinkle in my eye
         Bb Dm/A A7
    Dm
'cause I sung songs spun stories loved laughed and drank wine

Gm Dm A7 Dm
Tomorrow is another day
Gm Dm A7 Dm
The cats are out to play, to play
     Gm Dm A7 Dm
That old rusty spaceship wants to sail
Gm Dm A7 Dm
Into the milky way again
     Dm Abdim A7 | /A /B
/C# |
On a river of red red wine

[For this section, its really just the four chords written, but I included the bass
notes as at the start when it is slow, those are very pronounced. But its just the chords
with that Jewish Hora feel by alternating between the 5ths]

Dm Dm/A (repeat)
Run...
(let's have some)
Gm Gm/D (repeat)
Fun...
(we'll)
Dm Dm/A (repeat)
Drink...
(a toast to the)
A7 A7/E (repeat)
Sun...

[Same chords as verse 1]

In summer the bushfires rage and rage
And rage
On such beautiful days
And we fight them with water that runs through the cracks
Water we're desperately trying to save
So I'll just live on wine and water my vines
And sleep on the wind with the fires right behind
And sing on the beaches and dance through the night
Oh we'll cry 'pass the wine, pass the wine, pass the wine'

Gm Dm A7 Dm
Tomorrow is another day
Gm Dm A7 Dm
The cats are out to play, to play
     Gm Dm A7 Dm
That old rusty spaceship wants to sail
Gm Dm A7 Dm
Into the milky way again
     Dm Abdim A7 | /A /B
/C# |
On a river of red red wine

[Again, same chords as before]

Run...
(let's have some)
Fun...
(we'll)
Drink...
(a toast to the)
Sun...

[Instrumental solo. This part is the same chords as the "run run run" section. The
tricky part is the melody line, which I wont include, but if anyone actually wants it just
contact me]

F C A7 Dm
Oh what a beautiful day today!
Gm F C F
Today's a day to celebrate
F C A7 Dm
Grab your bucket, grab your spade
Gm F C F
We're heading down to Half Moon Bay
F C A7 Dm
I saw a plane go into a cloud
Gm F C F
I'm drunk I'm happy I'm singing and loud
F C A7 Gm A7 Bb
                            [where the leading melody is C# D E D]
Two o'clock in the arvo, but hey that's allowed...
Gm F | C C/E | F
          A7 Dm
I'm having a good time and of that I am proud

[Have fun playing. An amazing song. It needs to be here.]

Nice transcription! So much better than the other one... that I originally posted 10 years ago after fiddling around for 20 min. As you clearly have a much better ear than I, I will be using your version! I was in the same position as you as a first transcriber and poster, and at that time there was nothing anywhere on the web of any of their songs so it was "to get the ball rolling". Yeah... back in the day! But hey - don't be horrified or offended by what I did, save that for when your transcriptions (no matter how good or bad) get plagarised and posted by other users under their name, i.e. "Contributor: Strokesofgenius" to the other version!

Anyone who gets to hear the Cat Empire has done their musicallity a service. Awesome musicians with amazing creativity. Anyone who listens to a song over and over again and then tries to decipher it must really like it (or be insane!), and I think we both fall into that category. So kudos to you for your interpretation - give us some more!

One other thing... can you correct all the other mistakes I made in my other contributions?!!
