I noticed the chords currently on here needed a lot of corrections so I took the time to add them. This song is
easily one of my favorites from AJJ and I wanted to do a correct cover of it, so here are the updated chords.

Intro: G Am C Am C Am C D

G Am
Who are you?
       C Am
And where did you go?
    C Am
And where are you from?
    C D
And what do you know?

G Am
You're in my blood
    C Am
And you're in my hair
   C Am
You're in my heart
    C Am G
And you're in the air

G (I like to end on a D like the bass plays)

 G Am C Am
I met you once over the phone
C Am C D
You sounded sad and you seemed alone
G Am C Am
You left me but I never left you
C Am D Am G
I never had the chance to

  Music was the one thing
We would have had in common
Am Em
You were my age when I was born

Would I have done what you did?
Would I do what you have done?
Am D
I'd like to think I'm a bigger man than that

G Am C Am C Am C D

G Am C Am
You had some problems with alcohol
   C Am C D
You took 12 steps and you solved them all
   G Am C Am
It took 16 years for you to call
C Am C D Am G
What gave you the brave to pick up that ball?

Am Em
You played the trumpet and the drums
Am D
While my mom sang at funerals
Am Em
I play guitar til my hands are numb
Am D
You two are where music comes from, for me

G Am C Am C Am C D [x2]

G Am C Am
So thank you so much for not raising me
C Am C D
You spent your life on better things
    G Am C Am
And you would have been an awful dad
C Am C D Am G
Thank you though for those genes you had
