Hey, the chord isn't G, it's D during the verses and what not.

My first instinct was to go with the D as well, but I think this is correct. If you listen to the song closely, it's Rodger's voice that sounds like he's singing more in D, but with the G played on the guitar. After all, those two chords do compliment each other anyway, so, why not?
