About this tab version
I always find myself adding/changing chords from what's available and have settled on this arrangement. There is a short set of intro chords. This version has C's before many of the Cadd9 chords, and several places where C replaces Cadd9. It has careful alignment with chord changes. The last line from the first chorus has a different chord progression than I've seen elsewhere. Was this info helpful? Yes No
[INTRO]
G D C Cadd9

[VERSE]
G D C Cadd9
Broke into the old apartment
G D C Cadd9
This is where we used to live
G D C
Broken glass, broke and hungry
         D G
Broken hearts and broken bones
         D C Cadd9
This is where we used to live

[REFRAIN]
Em D C Cadd9
Why did you paint the walls?
Em D C Cadd9
Why did you clean the floor?
Em D C D G
Why did you plaster over the hole I punched in the door?
G D C Cadd9
This is where we used to live
G D C
Why did you keep the mousetrap?
      D G
Why did you keep the dishrack?
         D C
These things used to be mine
                D G
I guess they still are, I want them back

[BREAK]
G D C Cadd9

G D C Cadd9
Fortytwo stairs from the street
G D C
Crooked landing, crooked landlord
          D G
Narrow landway filled with crooks.
G D C Cadd9
This is where we used to live.

Why did they pave the lawn?
Em D C Cadd9
Why did they change the locks?
Em D C D G
Why did I have to break it, I only came here to talk
G D C Cadd9
This is where we used to live
G D C
How is the neighbor downstairs?

How is her temper this year?
         D C D
I turned up your tv and stomped on the floor just for fun

We bought an old house on the Danforth

I’m happy here

Broke into the old apartment
G D C Cadd9
Tore the phone out of the wall
