Tuning: Standard
Tabbed By: Hex
Comments: I'm almost postive this tab is 100% correct, if anyone finds something wrong
with it please let me know. Anyways, another great tune by the front man for Death Cab
for Cutie, after someone was kind enough to correct the picking on my last Ben Gibbard
tab I was extra careful on this one to make the Riffs very accurate. Hope you guys all
enjoy this song as much as I do, it's very easy to pick up.

See Riff

 G C Am C
Every scream went bleeding through these paper walls
 G C Am C
and all the make-up in the world couldn't hide the scars
                 G C Am C
I leave today, I'm packing light: a suitcase, some toiletries
                     G C Am C
The rolling hills and willow trees of Carolina wait for me

        Interlude: See Riff

 G C Am C
You never learned, the rules have changed since we were nine
 G C Am C
This isn't school: boys don't assault the girls they like
                     G C Am C
The taste of blood, the claim of love: these two will here on cease to be
                  G C Am C
sprouting from your fists and tongue 'cause Carolina waits for me

        Interlude: See Riff

 G C Am C
Fields of grain go whipping by from the window seat
 G C Am C
I'm drifting in, I'm drifting out catching up on sleep
                   G C Am C
I couldn't get Indentured since the very crest of 17
                    G C Am C
I left my keys and broken dreams 'cause Carolina waits for me

        Interlude: See Riff

 G C Am C
I will never forgive a single day
 G C Am C
Mile markers seem to call my name and say,
                      G C Am C
"you're safer now. Through every town, we'll light your way in reflective green
                G C Am C G
all the way" The entire state of Carolina waits for me

This tab is correct, and sounds great, but the original track is actually two guitars.
The second guitar part plays the same chords barred at the third fret for C and G, and the 5th for the Am.
Then, during the riff, guitar one has an upstrum on G while Guitar two does the hammer notes by hammering on the 5th string 3/5/3 3/5/3 and then 3 on the 6th string.
Finally, I'm not sure abot this but I think it sounds closer if the C is played as a Cadd9, and the barred A chord for guitar two is modified accordingly. :-D
