He does this one progression throughout most of the song. Repetitive, but it suits the mood of the song in my
opinion. The transition from F to G produces almost a natural slide on the second stroke of the F. Use it,
or don't, but it just kinda happens for me.
Hope y'all enjoy.

[Verse 1]

C G/B Am7
This ain't the life I thought I'd live
               F G C
This ain't the home I hoped we'd make
               G/B Am7
This ain't the path I thought I chose
               F G C
This ain't the sky I'd hoped we'd see
               G/B Am7
This ain't the tree I thought would grow
               F G C
This ain't the god to which I pray
               G/B Am7
This ain't the song I thought I'd write
                F G C
These ain't the words I want to say

G/B Am7 F G C G/B Am7 F G
But I can't be your man

[Verse 2]

C G/B Am7
This ain't the flag I thought we'd raise
               F G C
This ain't the wind I'd hoped would blow
               G/B Am7
This ain't the ship I thought would sail
               F G C
This ain't the rose I'd hoped would bloom
               G/B Am7
This ain’t the play I thought we’d stage
                F G C
These ain’t the hills I’d hoped we’d roam
               G/B Am7
This ain’t the sword pulled from the lake
                F G C
Yours ain’t the heart I want to break

G/B Am7 F G C G/B Am7 F G
But I can't be your man

[Verse 3]

C G/B Am7
This ain't the end I thought it'd be
            F G C
Are you someone I've loved before
           G/B Am7
Is this the song the caged bird sings
              F G C
Is there some law I choose to ignore
         G/B Am7
This is a faith I must defend
        F G C
I've tried, I can't pretend
          G/B Am7
There is a hope I must contend
               F G C
We'll find the thread with the strength to mend

G/B Am7 F G C G/B Am7
But I can't be your man

      F G F
Least not this time around
                     C F
It's something unpredictable
                       Am7 G/B F
Like where a leaf might fa---aa--all
                      C Am7 F
It's something unrestrainable
                          C
Like a rooster's morning call

e|--------------------------------------|

        I can't be your man
