This is my first tab for a website, so be patient with it;
I saw a whole bunch of tabs on the internet with half the
song cut out, so I just had to laugh as the song goes.
I'm 99% sure these are the chords used, take accurate
timing by listening to the song while practising.

And there's a difference between G# and G#m

[spoken]

I saw you standing on the corner, you looked so big and fine.
I really wanted to go out with you, so when you smiled,
I laid my heart on the line

Intro/Hook:
E, A, B x2

E A B E
You read me my rights and then you said "Let's go" and nothing more
                            A
I thought of my nights, and how they were
B
They were filled with --

A
I know you wouldn't go
               B
You'd watch my heart burst then you'd step in
G# A
I had to know so I asked
                E
You just had to laugh

[intro/hook x 2]

E A B E
We sat in the night with my hands cuffed at my ... side
                             A
I look at your life and your style
  B A
I wanted nothing more

I know you wouldn't go
               B G#
You'd watch my heart burst then you'd step in
                   A
I had to know so I asked
                E
You just had to laugh

[intro/hook]

C#m
Walking the line, you were a marksman
A
Told me that law, like wine, is ageless
F# B
Public defender
C#m
You had to admit
    A F# B
You wanted the love of a sex offender

[guitar solo: E, G#m, A, B]

A
I know you wouldn't go
               B G#
You'd watch my heart burst then you'd step in
                   A
I had to know so I asked
                E
You just had to laugh

E A B E
My vision in blue, I call you from inside my cell
                           A
And in the trial, you were there
          B E
With your badge and rubber boots
                                 A B E
I think all the time how I'm going to perpetrate love with you
                               A B E
And when I get out, there's no doubt I'll be sex offensive to you
