Bob Mould - The Descent
-----------------------

Nice and simple song, not 100% sure if correct, just a rough draft -
you can use powerchords only as well, maybe mix it up a little...

Intro:
------
A F#m D (4x)

Verse:
------
C#m D
I started out so starry-eyed
                         A F#m D (2x)
Full of hope and wonder
C#m D
And I wore flowers in my hair
                         A F#m D (2x)
Not aware I'd been defiled

Bridge:
-------
E D E D
(Every time I see you) I know it's going down
E D E D
(How can I believe you?) Karma comes around

Chorus:
-------
A Bm D
I know this ride, you must be there by my side
A Bm D
You going down, I must be descending

(play Intro and Verse like before)

I didn't want to play the song
That gave people so much hope
I turned my back and turned away
Here's the rope that made me choke

(Every time I see you) I know it's going down
(How can I believe you?) Karma comes around

D A Bm (repeat)
You can see it in my eyes
You can read it on my face
You can hear it as I cry
God, I hope it's not too late
Can I try to make it up to you somehow?
Can I try to make it up to you somehow?

Solo-Part:
----------
F#m E Bm D (2x)

D A Bm
You can see it in my eyes
                      D
You can read it on my face
        A Bm
You can hear it as I cry
                         D A
God, I hope it's not too late
      Bm D A
Can I try to make it up to you somehow?
      Bm A F#m (E) D
Can I try to make it up to you somehow?

       A Bm
Now my race is finally run
                       D
And as I tumble to the sun
          A Bm
All these dreams I can't achieve
           A F#m (E) D
Brought me crashing to my knees
My descent has now begun
All the music left undone
My world, it is descending

(play D A Bm A F#m (E) D until the end, end on D)

Thanks for putting this one up - it's a great song - lots of fun to play.

If you manage to work any more songs out from Silver Age that would be very cool indeed :)

Cheers,
BodHod

Good work dude! You got the chords right, but you can hear a A and an E on the first and second string (5th fret of both strings) through out the whole (most of the?) song and that's very hard to play unless you're in drop D tuning. SO, to keep sustaining those two notes throughout the chord changes, you put a capo on the second fret and just hold down your ring finger and your pinky.

Shape wise, you're now playing G, Em7 (slightly different shape 0-2-2-0-3-3), and a Cadd9 for the intro! You should be able to work the rest of it out with the capo on.

And yes, you can watch Mr. Mould play it live if you're in doubt haha

Peace!

Thanks a lot!

I wonder if you have managed to work out the intro to Star Machine. I've watched loads of videos of Bob playing to live, but I'm having little luck working out the progression.

Thanks again!
