Fire - Bruce Springsteen

I'm driving in my car I turn on the radio
           Am G
I'm pullin close You just say no
                   Am Em
You say you don't like it But girl I know you're a liar
            C D G
And when we kiss hmm Fire

Well late at night I'm taking you home
              Am G
I say I wanna stay You say you wanna be alone
                  Am Em
You say you don't love me But you can't hide your desire
            C D G
And when we kiss hmm Fire

          C G
you had a hold on me right from the start
   D G
A grip so tight I can’t tear it apart
    C G
My nerves all jumping acting like a fool
     A D
Your kisses they burn but your heart stays cool

Romeo and juliet Samson and Delilah
             Am G
Baby you can bet Their love they couldn't deny
               Am Em
Your words say split but your words they lie
             C D G
And when we kiss hmm Fire

I think the Am in throughout the verses should be an Em. If you listen to the song that E bass note is very vital for that riff.

The E bass note is vital, but the use of the sub-mediant chord (Am) is inherent in the composition of the vocal part.

zakkglynn is right. I'm more concerned about the C on the opening of "When we kiss". I'm more tempted to play the Am again (since that sung note "Kiss" is an A and sounds awkward when playing the C).
