[Verse 1]
Bmadd9/D Gmaj7
My father sits at night with no lights on,
Bmadd9/D Gmaj7
His cigarette glows in the dark,
Dm7
      The living room is still,
Cmaj7 Am/G Ab G
I walk by, no re - mark--------------!
                       | / / / / | / / / / |

[Verse 2]
Bmadd9/D Gmaj7
I tiptoe past the master bedroom, where...
Bmadd9/D Gmaj7
...my mother reads her maga - zines,
Dm7
I hear her call, "Sweet dreams!"
Cmaj7 Am/G Ab G
But I forget how to dream-------------!
                         | / / / / | / / / / |

[Chorus]
Fmaj7 Em7
But you say it's time we moved in together,
Dm7 Cmaj7
And raised a family of our own, you and me,
Fmaj7 Em7
Well, that's the way I've always heard it should be,
              A D5
You want to marry me, ...we'll marry-----!

[Verse 3]
Bmadd9/D Gmaj7
My friends from college, they're all ...married now,
Bmadd9/D Gmaj7
They have their houses, and their ...lawns,
Dm7
      They have their silent noons,
Cmaj7 Am/G Ab G
      Tearful nights, angry dawns-------------!
                          | / / / / | / / / / |

[Verse 4]
Bmadd9/D Gmaj7
Their children hate them for the things they're not,
Bmadd9/D Gmaj7
They hate themselves for what they are,
Dm7
And yet they drink, they laugh,
Cmaj7 Am/G Ab G
Close the wound, hide the scar--------------!

[Verse 5]
Bmadd9/D Gmaj7
You say that we can keep our love ...alive,
Bmadd9/D Gmaj7
Babe, all I know is what I see,
Dm7
      The couples cling and claw,
Cmaj7 Am/G Ab G
And drown in love's de - bris--------------!
                             | / / / / | / / / / |

[Verse 6]
Bmadd9/D Gmaj7
You say, we'll soar like two birds through the clouds,
Bmadd9/D Gmaj7
But soon you'll cage me on your shelf,
Dm7 Cmaj7
I'll never learn to be just me first,
        Am/G Ab G
By my - self--------------!
      | / / / / | / / / / |

[Chorus]
Fmaj7 Em7
Well, okay, it's time we moved in together,
Dm7 Cmaj7
And raised a family of our own, you and me,
Fmaj7 Em7
Well, that's the way I've always heard it should be,
              A D
You want to marry me, ...we'll marry-----------------!
                                    (Marry-----------!)

this is the most accurate of the 3 versions I'm seeing posted here - Version one is simplistic - Carly uses a lot of different chord voicings and this sounds the closest to what's on the records.

Great chords, definitely the best on here, I've found that the Gmaj7 chord is a lot easier to play with this shape: xx5432. That way you don't have to reposition your hand to play the chord and the song flows easier. I'm a huge Carly Simon fan by the way.

Thanks Jack for the suggestion on the Gmaj7 shape. I tabbed this 3 years ago, so I've had another listen to the track and hopefully made a few more little improvements.
