About this tab version
I grew up listening to the Chad Mitchel Trio sing this song. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kpsy46_6wsQ) They start with the chorus instead of with Verse 1, and there are a few minor wording differences from other subsequent versions, notably Neil Young's. I think the Mitchell Trio stayed truer to the original by Ian and Sylvia. Neil Young seems to have taken more license with his interpretation. Wherever two consecutive bars of G appear, the second can optionally be played as G7. The only other thing I'd like to mention (and I lack the proper musical education and vocabulary to explain it correctly) is that this is a three-chord song. When you're transitioning from one chord to the next, it sounds pretty good and pretty authentic, with just a few exceptions, to "pass through" the third remaining chord for one beat immediately prior to the change. I've put those chords in [brackets] just before each change on the chorus. Try it. See if you like it. Was this info helpful? Yes No

Chad Mitchell Trio - Four Strong Winds
From: Singin' Our Mind LP (1963)
Written By Ian Tyson

Four bar intro:
F C G G

[Chorus]
     [G] C [G] F [C] G [F] C
Four strong winds that blow lonely, seven seas that run high,
    [G] C [G] F [C] G G
all those things that don't change, come what may.
        C F [C] G [F] C
But our good times are all gone, and I'm bound for moving on.
          F C [F] G G
I'll look for you if I'm ever back this way.

[Verse 1]
           C F G C
Think I'll go out to Alberta, weather's good there in the Fall.
         C F G G
Got some friends that I can go to workin' for.
      C F G C
Yet I wish you'd change your mind, if I asked you one more time,
          F C G G
But we've been through that a hundred times or more.

[Verse 2]
     C F G C
If I get there 'fore the snow flies, And if things are looking good,
          C F G G
You could meet me if I sent you down the fare.
       C F G C
But by then it would be winter, not too much for you to do
        F C G G
And the wind sure blows cold way out there.
