[Verse 1]
G Cmaj7 G
Some folks don’t like working hard, some folks don’t like rain
G Dsus4 D
Some folks love to tell you all about their aches and pains
G G/B C
Me, I take the hand I’m dealt, and I play it as it lays
                  G D G Cmaj7 D
It’s the cost of living, and everyone pays

[Verse 2]
G Cmaj7 G
You can live in memories of all your golden yesterdays
G G/B Dsus4 D
Or spend your whole life grieving for the one that got away
G G/B C
Common sense says let her go, but your heart disobeys

It’s the cost of living, and everyone pays

Blue shadows falling all around me, still I don’t regret a single day

[Instrumental]
G G7 G7/B C G D G

[Verse 3]
G Cmaj7 G
I look in the mirror now, I see the time can be unkind
G Dsus4 D
But I know every wrinkle, and I earned every line
G G/B C
So wear it like a royal crown, when you get old and grey
                   G D G G/A - G/B
It’s the cost of living, and everyone pays
C G D Cmaj7 G Cmaj7 D G
It’s the cost of living, and everyone pays

Ryan,

I'm an old hippie ... Not real good at Guitar but I can follow songs with the chords. I need to use my kapo quite often yet I cannot find where to place it for this song. Can you help?

Hey Ryan- don't use a capo. My 12 string is in E flat. Tune your guitar down to that, play the song in the key of Cmaj., and you're in exactly the same key as Mr Henley. Great song as is the whole album, luv 'ya Don!.
