Skyline Pigeon

[Verse]

          D A/C#
Turn the loose from your hands
      G A A7 D
Let me fly to distant lands
             E/G# G
Over green fields, trees and mountains
D/A A A7 D
Flowers and forest fountains
G D/A A7 D
Home along the lanes of the skyway

[Verse]
          D A/C#
For this dark and lonely room
           G A A7 D
Projects a shadow cast in gloom
                E/G#
And my eyes are mirrors
       G
Of the world outside
         D/A
Thinking of the way
A A7 D
That the wind can turn he tide
           G
And these shadows turn
      D/A A7 D
From purple into grey

[Chorus]
              G
For just this Skyline Pigeon
D/A A7
Dreaming of the open
D
Waiting for the day
        G
He can spread his wings
    D/A A7 D F#7/C#
And fly away again
      Bm C#7 F#m
Fly away Skyline pigeon fly
             G D/A A7 D
Towards the dreams you left so very far behind
(repeat from fly away)

[Verse]

(Same chords as verses 1 & 2)

Just let me wake up in the morning

to the smell of new mown hay

to laugh and cry, to live and die

I the brightness of my day

I want to hear the pealing bells

Of distant churches sing

But most of all please free me

from this aching metal ring

and open out this cage towards the sun

(Repeat chorus)

The person who tabbed the next version is right - this song is orginally in E. I used to play it on the piano.

But it is quite high to sing in E and the chords are easier in D, so I might give them a go in D.
