Someone Saved My Life Tonight chords
Elton John

Capo I

G C 2x

G C G C
When I think of those East End lights, muggy nights
G F C
Curtains drawn in the little room downstairs
F G
Prima Donna Lord you really should have been there
F G C
Sitting like a princess perched in her electric chair
         Cm C A7
And it's one more beer and I don't hear you anymore
      C A7
We've all gone crazy lately
   C A7 C G
My friends out there rolling round the basement floor
        D
ooooooooo

    C G Am C Am C
And someone saved my life tonight, sugar bear
    C G Am C
You almost had your hooks in me didn't you dear
G C G
You nearly had me roped and tied
C A7
Altar bound, hypnotized
      G C
Sweet freedom whispered in my ear
         A7
You're a butterfly
    C A7
And butterflies are free to fly
C G A7 C
Fly away, high away, bye bye
C G Am G F
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh

G C 2x

G C G C
Never realised the passing hours of evening showers
G F C
Slip noose hanging in my darkest dreams
    F G
I'm strangled by your haunted social scene
F G C
Just a pawn out-played by a dominating Queen
     Cm C
It's four o'clock in the morning
         A7
Damn it, listen to me good
    C A7
I'm sleeping with myself tonight
C A7 C G
Saved in time, thank God my music's still alive
         D
Ah ah ah ah ah ah

    C G Am C Am C
And someone saved my life tonight, sugar bear
    C G Am C
You almost had your hooks in me didn't you dear
G C G
You nearly had me roped and tied
C A7
Altar bound, hypnotized
      G C
Sweet freedom whispered in my ear
         A7
You're a butterfly
    C A7
And butterflies are free to fly
C G A7 C
Fly away, high away, bye bye
C G Am G F
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh

G C 2x

Am C G C
And I would have walked head on into the deep end of the river
A7
Clinging to your stocks and bonds
A7 C
Paying your H.P. demands forever
Am C Em G
Coming in the morning with a truck to take me home
A7 C Em C
Someone saved my life tonight, someone saved my life tonight
A7 C Em C
Someone saved my life tonight, someone saved my life tonight
A7 C
Someone saved my life tonight
   Em C A7 C
So save your strength and run the field you play alone

    C G Am C Am C
And someone saved my life tonight, sugar bear
    C G Am C
You almost had your hooks in me didn't you dear
G C G
You nearly had me roped and tied
C A7
Altar bound, hypnotized
      G C
Sweet freedom whispered in my ear
         A7
You're a butterfly
    C A7
And butterflies are free to fly

On the intro, play the Am (strike down from A string) down then as you begin an up-stroke (that you never complete) hit the low E with your pinky on OPEN then THIRD frets. You'll soon work out the pattern. Hope this is useful.

very inaccurate chords. i get that guitar players want simple overview of chords to play along with piano songs but you miss out on the tonal quality of certain songs if you don't at least TRY to get the intentions of the changes partially right. This one is particularly bad. i turned to this during a gig last night to get the chords. nightmare. incomplete and wrong all over the place. you want to play this so it sounds like the record, you have to learn what 'slash' chords are. VERY key to copping Elton John or Billy Joel.

1. first chord is G#/D# (left hand plays bass line d#-f-g-g# up then down while right hand plays G# in time with the left hand).
2. second chord is RIGHT! but left hand run up c#-d#-f to F# (then back down) on the bass makes this a C#/F#, a much different animal than a 'C#' try it, you'll like it.

3. verse first line the chord is G#/D# when i think of those [C#/D#} east end lights , to C# (now notice how much more powerful going to that change with full root is from the others to really establish that the chords are starting to move, MUSICAL, which is the point right??)

4. curtains drawn is G#/C as the root heads down to A# for the ACTUAL chord [F#/A#] little room downstairs.[C#/G#]

5. 'prima donna lord you really should have been there' sure, you can play your chords during this part but there are some 2nds and/or 9s added to give it texture. main beef is with the 'i don't hear you [A#7/D] anymore, we've [C#] all gone crazy lately, my [A#7/D) friends out there rolling round the [G#/D#, the CHORD from the intro) basement floor, (resolving nicely to ) oooo [D#]

6. [C#] someone save my [G#/C] life tonight, [A#m7] Sugar bear.. [G#/C - C#] etc. for this section, there is no repeatedly going back to C# as you indicate.

7. [C#] Altar bound [A#7/D] hypnotized , sweet [G#/D#] (there's THAT chord AGAIN!) freedom whispered in my ear, you're a [A#/ F] butterfly and [C#] Butterflies are free to fly [A#7/D] fly away, [G#/D#]! high away [C7}Bye [C#] bye. totally missed that.

8. Bridge again with the C#? it's: [A#m7] and i would have walked head on to the [G#/C] deep end of the river. [D#6/F} clinging to your stocks and bonds, paying your [D#/G#] hp demands for ever [A#m7 coming in the morning with a [G#/C] truck to take me home. [D#6/F] Someone saved my life tonight [D#/G#] someone saved my life tonight.

9. i'd post actual chord charts to fix this kind of inaccuracies, but it takes much longer to submit because you can't post pdfs. don't take offence, but if you're going to publish INFORMATION, make sure it's accurate.

Inaccurate chords. Inaccurate chords everywhere.
I agree with the other comment on here. Slash chords are one of the things about this song that make it sound the way it does. Very important to include them.
I get that a lot of guitarists want simple songs, but they know to leave out the slashes if they really want to. Best to include correct chords in the future.
