Perhaps at end of lines in the verse

Instead of C2 . . D/F#

Try C2 . C/E - D/F#

I'm not convinced by that C2 & D/F# in the chorus - it sounds better if you play:

Of course, there is a D/F# chord in between the penultimate and final choruses:
